Silence of the spheres

From ancient times, people have explored the connection between music and the mechanics of the physical universe. Albert Einstein is quoted as saying "Everything in life is vibration" which, interestingly, has since become a popular mantra of pseudo-scientific new-age spirituality. Can art still draw inspiration from the mysterious inner workings of our physical reality or have we reached a dead end, as the scientific conception of reality continues to slip further into the domain of pure mathematical abstraction?
