Theis Munthe-Brun

International Coordinator, The Royal Danish Academy of Music

WHAT IS YOUR BACKGROUND?
I spent most of my childhood in a suburb just outside Copenhagen and live today in Frederiksberg 'inside' Copenhagen. I have tried to escape as much as possible, however, and have through studies, work and love lived for periods in Switzerland, London, Amsterdam and Costa Rica. I have a Master's Degree in English (language, literature, history and culture) with supporting subjects in gender and sexuality but have worked in many different sectors of the labour market including in the educational, health and retail sector as well as in the service industry.

Some of my favourite 'work' memories are interviewing pupils and teachers far inside the Costa Rican mountains and jungles; learning the stories of refugees while teaching Danish as a second language; contributing to the research project Embers of Empire with a study on British India, bartending in Soho, and singing as a boy in opera productions at The Royal Danish Opera.

WHAT IS YOUR PATH TO THE CURRENT POSITION?

I have always been fascinated with travel and international environments. In many ways I have always felt more at home away from home and it has therefore also always been important for me for my life and work to have an international dimension. As a peddler of many trades, it was an obvious fit when a friend made me aware that the position as international coordinator at the Academy was available.

WHAT IS YOUR PASSION IN YOUR JOB?

Besides the international aspect, I am passionate about having a very varied set of tasks that will enable me to interact with and get to know many different people both in and outside the Academy. I enjoy participating in and working together with colleagues in all kinds of tasks from the very specific and analytical assignments, as coordinator and administrator, to the interpersonal and communicative tasks asin their own field of expertise and as part of my everyday interpersonal work relations.
